A Telangana State Road Transportation Corporation (TSRTC) bus carrying 60 passengers fell into a gorge in Jagtial District of Telangana State earlier today. The current assessment of casualties sees 40 passengers deceased, with 20 passengers injured, some of the quite critically. The accident occurred when the driver lost control at a speed breaker on the Kondagattu Ghat road, as the bus was making its way back from the Anjaneya Swamy temple that is situated at the top of Kodagattu Hills.
Of those deceased, there are twenty women and seven children. The Chief Minister, K. Chandrashekhar Rao expressed his condolences and surprise that such an incident had taken place, promising the families of the deceased five laks as compensation. The injured were rushed to the government hospital in Jagtial, while those who were in a more serious condition were sent to hospitals in Hyderabad and Karimnagar. It was the good graces of the people and officials who rushed to the scene that saw most of the survivors make it to the hospital in quick time. The fact remains, however, that some of them were in very serious condition and will have to be under close observation to ensure they make it out of this ordeal alive.
This is the second accident involving a TSRTC vehicle in the last two days, as yesterday a speeding bus ran over three people waiting at a bus stand in Gachibowli, in Hyderabad city.
