YSR Congress Demands Probe into Jagan Attack by External Agency

A delegation of YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders took a letter from YSRCP Chief Jagan Mohan Reddy to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh asking for an investigation into the matter of his attack at Vishakapatnam airport on October 25, 2018. The leader of this delegation was Rajya Sabha MP V. Vijay Sai Reddy. In the letter, Jaganmohan Reddy alleged that the police had downplayed the incident saying that the stabbing attempt by Srinivas was purely a publicity stunt and that given the weapon he had used there was no chance of it causing a life-threatening injury. However, Jaganmohan Reddy had deflected a blow that was aimed at his neck, and it is believed that if the small knife that is used in rooster fighting had found its mark, the end result could have resulted in severs blood loss and possible death if first aid was not administered in time.

The letter from Jaganmohan Reddy was categorical in demanding that an agency not under the Telugu Desam Party conduct the investigation as the Director-General of Andhra Pradesh Police, R.P. Thakur had himself made the comment about the attack being a publicity stunt. To make matters worse, following the attack, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Chandrababu Naidu called it a publicity stunt in an attempt to gain sympathy for the YSRCP. In the letter, Jaganmohan Reddy wrote, “It is therefore apparent that the state government machinery is acting with the ulterior motive of trivializing this shocking attack on me.”
