Anukreethy Vas Crowned Femina Miss India 2018

Nineteen-year-old Anukreethy Vas from Tamil Nadu is Femina Miss India 2018. She edged out competition from Meenakshi Chaudhary of Haryana, and Shreya Rao of Andhra Pradesh to win the title. A student of Chennai’s Loyola College, studying to receive her B.A. degree in French in the hopes of becoming an interpreter later on in life, Vas is now ready to become a supermodel on the back of this victory. She was raised by her mother in a single-parent family. She received the crown from outgoing beauty, Manushi Chillar, winner in 2017 who also won the Miss World title last year, and becomes the 55th winner of the Miss India title.

 

The event which took place on Tuesday evening at the Sardhar Vallabhai Patel Indoor Stadium in Mumbai saw a star-studded display of the elite of India’s fashion and movie industry participating in the competition in a variety of roles. From Madhuri Dixit Nene who performed a riveting dance encompassing various classical Indian dance styles, to the panel of judges that was made up by the likes of Kunal Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Malaika Arora, Irfan Pathan and designer Gaurav Gupta, the event was hosted by Karan Johar and Ayushmann Khurrana. The team of 30 contestants, one each from each of India’s states, including Delhi, were offered advice and grooming tips by Pooja Chopra, Pooja Hegde, and Neha Dhupia, as well as a couple of others.

 

Additional entertainment was provided by the likes of Jacqueline Fernandez and Kareena Kapoor Khan who danced to some of the latest Bollywood hits at the moment.
