BENGALURU: The city police have taken extensive security precautions on the palace grounds, where Union Minister of the Interior, Amit Shah, will attend an event on Saturday. More than 1,400 police officers were deployed for bandobast. Shah will attend the Viveka Deepini Convention on the premises. It is expected that more than one lakh will attend the event. In light of the protests against the city’s Citizenship Change Act and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the city, the police have taken stringent security measures for the event.
Up to 1,487 police officers were deployed for security purposes. The police conducted a security service rehearsal on Friday. All officers were instructed to carry revolvers and pistols with them. Other police officers were instructed to wear helmet and body protection and to wear lathis.
“All participants in the event are thoroughly searched and sabotage checks are carried out at the event location. In addition, 12 KSRP and CAR trains, a SWAT vehicle, a rapid intervention vehicle and a command and control vehicle will be used as a security measure, ”said an official.
