Coronavirus outbreak: Kerala nurse in Saudi Arabia, who was the first Indian woman to be infected, writes CM to the center

A Kerala’s nurse, who works in a hospital in Saudi Arabia, is the first person from India to have been diagnosed with coronavirus, which is widespread in China and has so far killed 17 people.

The Foreign Minister against Muraleedharan confirmed the news on Thursday evening, saying, “About 100 Indian nurses, mostly from Kerala, who work at Al Hayat Hospital were tested, and none but one nurse was found to be infected with coronavirus.”

He also informed that the nurse who tested positive for coronavirus is being treated at Aseer National Hospital in Saudi Arabia and is recovering well. She was diagnoised with corona virus symptoms.

Previously, there were reports of a 45-year-old Indian school teacher from the Chinese city of Shenzhen who was the first Indian to be infected with the corona virus. However, her husband confirmed that she was being treated for a streptococcal infection.

It was originally suspected that it was a corona virus. The corona virus symptoms are common to those of a pneumonia.

Kerala’s health minister, KK Shailaja, said Thursday that the Gulf States have informed India that the Malayali nurses have tested positive for coronavirus. However, there are no official figures or confirmations yet.

KK Shailaja said that Prime Minister Pinarayi Vijayan intervened in the matter and that the central government should do the same.

“We have also informed the central government about this. I think they will also intervene in this matter,” she said.

Through the Department of Non-Resident Keralites (NORKA), we gave them the message to pay due attention to them (nurses), said the Minister of Health of Kerala.
